I may just let you all know that i fully understand why you would want to call revival a cult,if by all means you have not experienced being in a revival group,then i cant understand why you would clash it as a cult.I myself was brought up in the catholic faith when young,then my parents went to a church of england and not once did i understand what our lord was about from either of them,until my friend told me about revival.Im a normal 36yr old women and a very respectable landlady for a job,i dont target people to come along because revival to me means one to one with our lord!!!.Unless you understand when you hear people talk about the holy spirit and being filled...Then why these groups branded??.My auntie reads tarots and she tells me things that do go on behind these people who go to her,one of my other friends had terrible things happen to her after going to have her tarots told!!,AND YET PEOPLE ARE QUICK TO JUDGE PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE IN GOOD THINGS LIKE PEACE,DOESNT EVERYONE WANT PEACE?...Im sorry for rabbitin on but just think of this...if you were on your death bed with your children around you not wanting you to pass away cause they love you so much...wouldnt you want to be saved x

When I read the story in the Champion last week, I sincerely believed it to be the freshest idea to have hit Southport in years. I too wonder why it is that over the time I have lived in the town (now about 20+ years), the place seems to have progressively lost it's character, it's soul even. The Southport that my Mum used to tell me about, this was a place where as she told me, "we came to window shop because it was so exclusive, so classy". Southport was one of the most visited resorts in the Northwest. But as Maurice says on his site "...not any more". There can be little doubt that transport links and the ease with which these can be accessed hold the key to growth in almost every respect; growth in visitor numbers, growth in small businesses, growth in the entertainment and leisure sector etc., etc., etc.

Slowly but surely, it seems (am I right? ...Perhaps), everything that once made Southport special, unique even: the old cinema, the immaculateness of Lord Street, the magnificent outdoor Baths, the indoor market and many other classical features have been lost or allowed to fall into disrepair.

I sincerely believe that a coach station would be a step, no matter how small, towards recapturing some of the towns former glory.

Someone mentioned to me incidentally that the complex where the Courts and Fire Station are now would be ideal for such a venture. This would certainly be my preference as it would provide us with an old classical building for the station rather than a new one which I don't think would have the same appeal nor fit into Southport's Victorian heritage that visitors are surely drawn to (or at least what's left of it - hears Victorians turning in their graves)

I've no problem at all with the PCC being given a sharper set of teeth so that it can take tougher action against those who breach its code of conduct, but my worry is that the calls to abolish it altogether are a kneejerk reaction to one newspaper's actions which will potentially affect every title in the country, whether they're regional or national.

I think that journalists who know how the industry works have an important role to play in the PCC, but it's never been to the extent that it's "self regulation".

As the PCC itself says:

"There are seventeen members of the Press Complaints Commission. A majority of them have no connection with the press - ensuring that the PCC is independent of the newspaper industry."

But in what way has the PCC ever been effective? E...

Even when it totally upholds a complaint and issues a rebuke in the strongest possible terms - such as the Standard's completely false allegations about Climate Camp protesters at Heathrow planning to leave hoax bombs in the airport - there's no penalty for the offender.

A few stern words and an ambiguously worded apology buried deep in the paper compared to thousands more papers sold? Price well worth paying for the paper. When the PCC throw the book at you it's one of those little books of kittens they sell next to the till in Waterstones.

It's alright if you're Elton John and can afford the kickass lawyer to sue The Sun for writing lies and get a million quid in compensation. But if you're one of the thousands of ordinary people savaged by tabloids you've got no real comeback.

As anyone who's ever found themselves at the fridge at midnight knows, self regulation doesn't work. A proper independent commission with power of sanction is clearly needed.

I have to say I find it regrettable that West Lancs Labour have chosen to trivialise what is a very important matter.

The use of the word 'capital' (note the single quote marks) by myself was part of a blogpost I wrote in order to advance the argument that Ormskirk should have a police station with front desk services. It appears the West Lancs Labour Group Leader, for reasons best known to himself, read the article and homed in on one particular sentence which he then used to base an entire press release on. I've posted an update giving more detailed background at http://david4derbyward.wordpress.com/2011/06/22/on-your-single-quote-marks-and-mind-your-grammar/ so Champion readers can judge for themselves as to who instigated this.

It is hard to know what the Labour Group Leader thought this would achieve - maybe he thought he'd gain some political capital (pardon the pun!) out of attacking a political opponent but all he has done is distract attention from the substantive issue at hand and tried to find division where there should be common cause.

As local Conservatives, we are fighting hard to protect a service which is under threat because of how the last Labour Government left the country in a financial mess.

The big question is will Labour put their tribalism and thirst for finding 'dividing lines' to one side, and join us in fighting to maintain front desk services at Ormskirk... or are they more interested in playing party politics by trivialising what is a serious matter?

There is no right or wrong way to to this, and it's nothing to do with grammar, but if you don't stick to the style book the subs will get you. I prefer the latter form, with the speaker named first, because it gives you context you might need to interpret the quotation, rather than having to figure out who is commenting, and why they might be doing that, while you are reading the quotation. Works differently in fiction, where there are other ways of signalling who is speaking.

My sailboat and crew left harbor on early Saturday morning, September 11, 2010 into a very chaotic and wavy sea state. We were on our way to a yacht race. We immediately began to see a debris field of flotsam on Lake Michigan that made us conclude a boat of some type had run aground and broke up overnight. We recovered a couple personal bags. After contacting the US Coast Guard, the Chicago Fire Dept responded to our call. Later when we contacted the coastguard again to return the bags to their owners, we were told none of the survivors wanted any personal possesions back. The story from NBC was the only local piece that ran about it.

It was certainly useful for me to keep on top of the latest news when I was out and about, and think it's certainly something you should keep.
