A tale of two clubbers

I KNOW it's a bit of a cliché, but there are two sides to every story.

That's always the way I work on stories, but earlier today I got slammed for missing out on a third or even fourth side - it just goes on!

A Champion reader rang in following a story I'd done about a DJ calling for more nightlife in West Lancashire, which I was expecting given it was a controversial opinion to air. What I wasn't expecting was that the caller wasn't an irked resident irritated by hordes of drunk clubbers, but a nightclub owner, complaining I was damaging his business.

Getting the views from all sides is an integral part of our jobs, and we'll always do our best to follow an issue up if we miss a trick.

I'm happy to air people's differing views - just like I did with the original piece - but I just don't buy the argument that it's always the journalist's fault if someone dares to venture a controversial comment or press release.

It's called freedom of speech.
